New flavours to savour at Ming Room

The chilled Prawn Salad Honeydew Bowl got lunch off to a refreshing start at Ming Room in Bangsar Shopping Centre.

Then the Stuffed Bird’s Nest Chicken Wing and bamboo pith in superior soup had me in a warm, comforting embrace. It leaves a gummy feel on my lips, there’s crunch from the bamboo pith, and the plump chicken wing spills out bird’s nest at the bite.

Fiery cherry duck — flavour in every tender fibre

The enjoyment of the Fiery Cherry Duck begins with its aromatic crispy skin, The meat is juicy, tender and flavourful. It doesn’t need any sauce or embellishment; it’s a flavour bomb on its own. It made a fiery entrance at our table.

Braised live garoupa with chef’s special sauce is served on a lotus leaf in a bamboo. The fish is smothered with a complex sauce filled with mushrooms, fuchuk, lily buds, cabbage and capsicums, and strips of fatty pork that adds on to the rich flavour. Altogether the fish is a tasty, complete meal in itself, especially if you haven’t ordered any vegetables.

Iberico pork ribs on banana leaf delivers the ribs sticky and glistening with its sweet sauce. The meat tears easily from the bone and I relish bites of the well seasoned and grilled tender ribs.

If you still hanker for it, this is a delicious substitute. The aroma of the liver sausage, the crunch of the crispy lardons, a little heat from chilli and the sweet sauce to stir everything up make this unforgettable.

To wrap up we have Musang king ice cream and mango tart, and Dang Ying red bean pumpkin ball with banana. The ice cream sits on a crumbly chocolate tart, topped with mango and strawberry.

The Dang Ying red bean pumpkin ball with banana tastes like a perfectly fried, crispy cheen tui which I like very much.

A private room big enough to hold a celebration lunch or dinner

Ming Room expanded to two a a half times its original size in a major renovation two years ago. It’s bright, spacious and elegant. It now has eight private dining rooms, one of which is big enough to hold a mini banquet on its own.
