For pure enjoyment of a dinner or lunch at Elegant Inn, nothing beats a well curated set menu. And there are two of them for the run-up to the Eighth Moon Festival or Mooncake Festival on September 17. The menus are available now.
In the Pure Bliss Menu, Citrus Peel Cuttlefish Ball and Silky Egg with Fresh Crab Roe were amazing appetisers. Mandarin peel or chan pei gives a scented lift to the cuttlefish ball. We savoured slowly the egg custard, with chunks of sweet fresh crabmeat in it, and crab roe.
Mention pig’s stomach and I’m all for the Peppercorn Free Range Baby Chicken and Pig Stomach with Fried Fish Maw Soup in a claypot. Peppercorn free-range baby chicken and pig stomach fried fish maw soup. It’s not the super hot peppery soup; it has just enough peppercorns to warm the palate. Luxuriate in the creamy, gummy soup, with a large piece of fish maw.
Three main courses:
Stuffed Morel with Steamed Fresh Prawn & Sea Garoupa Slices with Chinese Black Olives – loved the taste and texture of the stuffed morel. Garoupa slices flavoured with black olives are my thing.
Sea Cucumber Filled with Crunchy Hand-chopped Pork, with Organic Spinach & Radish with Abalone Sauce – chewy, tasty bites of sea cucumber, excellent pairing with radish and leave none of this abalone sauce behind!
Silky Rice Noodles with Australian M9 Wagyu Beef in Egg Sauce – I’m in noodle and wagyu heaven with this.
Desserts are my favourite Double-boiled Whole Coconut with Hasma in Fresh almond Cream; Golden Organic Sesame Pumpkin Ball
Pure Bliss Menu is RM238 per pax, minimum two pax
On the Appetisers Plate for the Sheer Bliss Menu:
Sakura Ebi Fresh Yuba & Twin Fungus Salad, Salt & Pepper Fried HK Silver Fish & Eggplant and Hokkaido Scallop Roll – all en pointe. We loved the sweet and spicy dressing, crispy Sakura ebi in the crunchy fungus and yuba salad.
The Double-boiled Soup of Fresh Pig Tail, Organic Black Beans & Chinese Herbs exuded a delicious aroma. We imbibed the goodness of the soup derived from the layering of pig’s tail, pork ribs, dried scallops, dried conch, black beans and myriad other ingredients.
It’s perfection in the Golden Fried Australian Jade Perch HK Dried Prawn and Twin Garlic. The fish, bathed in hot oil, gets a crispy skin and moist flesh inside. It’s topped with crispy bits of har kon and garlic.
Braised Free Range Chicken Deer Tendon and Dried Seafood in Lotus Leaf. The crunchy, chewy deer tendon stands out, as do fish maw, dried scallops, chicken and mushroom, in the superb abalone sauce.
Osmanthus Golden Coin Sharksfin Fried Rice or Kwai Fah Chee fried rice is in a class of its own – fine, fluffy, eggy with the right texture
Dessert is the awesome Musang King Glutinous Rice Roll and chilled Double-boiled Papaya & Snow Fungus with Chinese Almonds.
Of course we celebrated too with Elegant Inn’s incomparable Taro Mooncakes with the spiral covering and rich taro with its wonderful aroma.
Sheer Bliss Menu is RM888 (4 pax), RM1,088 (5 pax) and RM1,288 for (6 pax).
