As it’s the Year of the Horse, it’s a “horse” we get (twice!) at a pre-celebration of Chinese New Year at Noble House. First the Roast Treasure Duck rides in, in the form of a horse, served with a delicious sauce laden with chestnuts and lotus seeds. Then a second horse appears, for the excellent Farm Chicken, smoked over pu er tea leaves.

But first Yee Sang with softshell crab and Iberico pork neck grabs attention, mainly because it’s different. I’ve not had a Yee Sang with meat in it, let alone grilled Iberico pork neck. Add to that softshell crab. But the Yee Sang is surprisingly light, and I enjoyed the tender, tasty slices of pork neck in it.

Poon Choi Shunde Style
Then there is the ceramic horse pot presenting the Celebration Poon Choi, Shunde Styte. Poon Choi is about layering abalones, sea cucumber, dried oysters, prawn balls, fish maw, roast pork, dried oysters, mushrooms, fatt choy, yam, gluten, mushrooms, cabbage, and other ingredients in a big pot, brought together with a sauce poured over it. At Noble House (and other Oriental Group of restaurants), the Poon Choi is in a ceramic horse pot from Color King.
It’s RM688 for the takeaway Poon Choi and the horse pot is yours to keep.

Evergreen Blooming Cabbage unveiled
The Evergreen Cabbage with Tender Pork Tendon is a pleasant diversion from the meaty dishes. The cabbage is soft and juicy, simmering in a sauce with dried scallops in it. Cut open, the mound of cabbage reveals creamy pork tendon within.

Iberico Golden Pork Cheek pan-fried with the chef’s special sauce is served with Californian honeydew. It’s an explosion of flavours on the palate, the tender meat with the juicy, sweet honeydew.

Steamed Soon Hock with 3 types of radish and preserved vegetables
Steamed Soon Hock with three matured types of radish and preserved vegetables carry the message of abundance in the New Year. The preserved vegetables and radish, with a little mandarin peel, complement the fish well.

The Abundance Claypot Rice topped with freshwater prawns signifying happiness throughout the year is nice and garlicky with the sweet juices of the prawns infusing the rice.

Deepfried Nian Gao with yam and sweet potato2
