All the traditional dishes, with some new ones, are the focus for the Ramadan buffet at Nipah, EQ Kuala Lumpur. The Citarasa Nipah spread includes bubur lambuk, rendang tulang rusuk, gulai nangka muda, daging dendeng berlada, durian creme brulee and more.

Udang Galah Salai Masak Lemak Cili Api
I’m particularly drawn to the “salai” section which includes catfish (ikan keli), duck and beef cooked in that inimitable Negri Sembilan style – masak cili api. Add to this udang galah salai and many queue up for it, waiting for the refills as well.

Daging Dendeng Berlada

Different kerabu to savour with the meats
I like very much this hot, lemak curry, with the smoked meats, fish and prawns lacing the curry deliciously with their smoky aroma.
I go for the various kerabu, among them kerabu limau bali, a sweet and tangy pomelo salad, delicate young mango ribbons in the kerabu mangga, and the kerabu nangka, a young jackfruit salad. Also the hard-to-resist grilled eggplant salad.

Nasi daging utara
Enticing too are the different types of rice, usually colourful. Notable among them are the briyani Batu Pahat with ayam masak merah, the flavourful nasi daging utara, even nasi minyak.

Grilled ikan pari or stingray

Gulai Nangka Muda
At the grill section, grilled fish, especially the ikan pari with sambal is lovely on its own, without pesky bones to watch out for. And of course, who can resist the roast lamb on a spit, always the star in a buka puasa buffet spread.

A street stall favourite
You should browse around too at the EQ Bazaar at Nipah, taking in the street stalls offering roti john, ayam golekl, and nasi Arab, among several others.

Ayam Golek

Different types of kuih to buka puasa
Something refreshing and sweet for buka puasa would be the fresh coconut juice and the wide array of chilled drinks. A wide variety of kuih catches the eye, so do shaved ice desserts like cendol and ice kacang. There’s a selection of sweet bubur, also serawa durian (in coconut m ilk) that goes with glutinous rice.

Sago Pudding and other desserts
The durian crème brulee stood out for me and I would have tried the durian pancakes too if I still had room for it. Of course there are the western desserts too.
