Mooncakes by EQ make their mark

It was most timely for a friend who was visiting Switzerland when EQ launched its range of mooncakes. What better gift for her Swiss friends, one of whom had lived in Kuala Lumpur before? She took with her an assortment of baked mooncakes in different flavours, and the Swiss loved them. EQ was probably the earliest to roll out its mooncakes, offering a variety of baked and snow skin mooncakes and a choice of specially designed gift boxes.

Baked mooncakes

Its mooncake collection for the Mid-Autumn Festiva on October 12 is aptly named Celestial Treasures. They make suitable gifts in this season of giving and the carrying on of a tradition, in the spirit of reunion and togetherness.

Our early tasting of mooncakes was most pleasurable, beginning with the baked ones in classic flavours like Traditional Cantonese Mixed Nuts (my favourite), White Lotus (with or without egg yolk), and Red Bean. There’s also the popular EQ Signature Pearl of Harmony.

Mini Mooncakes

There are the mini baked mooncakes in green tea and white lotus flavours which the hotel first introduced in 2011.

Snow skin mooncakes

Most of us made a beeline for the Golden Charcoal Musang King Durian in the black snow skin with gold trimmings. Other snow skin varieties include the Sun-dried Scallop and Mixed Nuts, a winner in my book, with a soft outer skin and a delicious, nutty filling. The Butterfly Pea Flower Vitagen is a vision in blue and white; the Emerald Yuzu Pandan is refreshing. Mint Chocolate with Hawaiian Macadamia and Red Bean Custard are other varieties.

For giving with style, there are four signature sets. The Autumn Jade Collection offers a selection of four baked (RM288) or six snowskin varieties (RM298). The Premium Collection has four baked mooncakes paired with a bottle of Hennessy VSOP (RM988) or Bottega Gold Prosecco (RM888)

Classic flavours

The Longevity Collection is for bulk purchases, with a choice of four baked mooncakes in a box that can be customised for business partners and clients.

The mooncakes can be purchased till 12 October at EQ Kuala Lumpur, as well as Kampachi and IPPUDO restaurants. Early bird savings of 15% till 31 August for certain collections.
