Latin American Film Festival back in Kuala Lumpur

Malaysians will have the chance to enjoy the best of the Latin American and
Caribbean cinema for absolutely no cost at the Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC)
Pavilion.
Organized by the Embassies of the Latin American and Caribbean Group (GRULAC) in
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the Latin American Film Festival will run from November 7th to
11th November. Cinephiles will have the chance to enjoy some of the best movies from
Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela. As
a tradition, a Guest Country will be participating in this year’s festival. This year’s guest is
India to add more colors and flavors to the Festival.

The Festival opens on Wednesday 7th November and public screening of the subtitled
movies starts from Thursday 8th to Sunday 11th November with the following screening
time:
Thurs, 8th Nov – 7pm and 9pm
Fri, 9th Nov – 7pm and 9pm
Sat, 10th Nov – 3pm, 5pm and 8pm
Sun, 11th Nov – 3pm and 5.15pm
Movies include crime thriller “Mariposa Negra”: Gabriela is a teacher who is engaged to Judge Guido Pazos. One day, he is murdered. The case is treated in a sensationalist way by the press. mariposaGabriela meets the journalist Angela, who will help her to find out the estrange circumstances of his death. Gabriela begins an investigation to find out what happened and clean the image of her fiancé. Her inquiries will take her to the highest institutions of the Peruvian politics.

The animation offering “Selkirk: The real Robinson Crusoe”: Selkirk, an unruly, selfish pirate, is the sailing master of the Esperanza, an English galley sailing the South Seas in search of  treasures. When Captain Bullock, decides to abandon him on an uninhabited island, he discovers a new outlook on the world and learns to survive alone, becoming the real Robinson Crusoe.

mahatmaFrom India comes The Making of the Mahatma (1996) : Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was invited to South Africa in 1893 to settle a case for a wealthy Indian settled there. He expected to return in a few months but instead got involved in the freedom movement and eventually stayed
on for 21 years, where he fought against the apartheid and experimented with ‘satyagraha’ – a non-violent struggle against the colonisers. The movie won India’s 1996 National Film Award for Best Actor – Rajit Kapur as Gandhi and National Film Award for Best Feature Film in English.
