Asian Three-Fold Mirror 2016: Reflections will make its Malaysian premiere at GSC Mid Valley on April 21, 2017.
The multi-part anthology is the first in a series of omnibus movies jointly produced by The Japan Foundation Asia Centre and the Tokyo International Film Festival. The Asian Three-Fold Mirror project brings together renowned directors from Asia to lead collaborative productions across international borders to depict stories of interconnected in the region.
The initiative’s debut release features works by Brillante Ma Mendoza (Philippines), Isao Yukisada (Japan), and Sotho Kulikar (Cambodia).
The Malaysian segment, Pigeon, revolves around the bond between a native care worker and an elderly Japanese man suffering from dementia. Fully shot in Penang with local cast and crew, it stars Masahiko Tsugawa and Sharifah Amani in the two lead roles with direction by Yukisada.
Yukisada will attend the Malaysian premiere. The Japan Academy Prize-winning director will present Pigeon along with lead actress Sharifah Amani as well as producers Woo Ming Jin and Edmund Yeo.
